Reading and Phonics

We teach reading through systematic phonics and use a wide range of methods and interventions to support groups and individual children’s reading e.g. Reciprocal Reading, Whole Class Reading, 1-1 Reading, Peer Reading.

A wide of range of reading schemes are used alongside real life reading materials to ensure that children’s reading experience are varied and current as possible.

Money from fundraising is used regularly to stock our school library with current literature and the children’s views and preferences are taken into account when we order new books. As a school we also subscribe to a child friendly weekly newspaper, Bug Club (KS1) and the Seven Stories Museum’s Hooks into Books Scheme.
