We recognise that transitions can be difficult for a child with SEND and take steps to ensure that any transition is as smooth as possible.
How we will support children with SEND when they are moving on to another class or leaving this school:
Transition begins when children enter our school into our reception class. We host a parents meeting to welcome parents and children into our school.
School liaises closely with nursery and Early Years providers as well as parents to ensure transition to Reception is effective and meets the needs of individual children. As a small school, transition between key stages is well planned and based upon our excellent knowledge of the children in school. Staff liaise effectively with each other.
Transition from the infant class to the junior class takes place in the summer term. Year 2 children have the opportunity to meet the junior class teachers.
When children reach Year 6, transition between our school and local Secondary Schools is well established. We have strong links with these and the teachers visit us throughout the school year. Enhanced transition systems allow those children/ parents who may need increased support to work closely with staff from both schools and throughout the school year there are opportunities for our children to visit secondary schools too.
If you would like to discuss your SEND requirements in detail please contact the school to arrange an appointment.
